eVRE: a solution for easier Collaboration within Research Communities

Analysing open data in Virtual Research Environments: New collaboration opportunities to improve policy making

This video clarifies in which ways VREs support researchers in open data analysis. Seven cases presenting different modes of researcher support for open data analysis were investigated and compared. Four types of support were identified: 1) ‘Figure it out yourself', 2) ‘Leading users by the hand', 3) ‘Training to provide the basics' and 4) ‘Learning from peers'. This video is related to the open access paper "Analysing Open Data in Virtual Research Environments: New Collaboration Opportunities to Improve Policy Making"

VRE Requirements

Yi Yin from Delft University of Technology explains VRE requirements: what do VRE users need?

Search and discovery of metadata in an enhanced VRE - The VRE4EIC Metadata Portal (Part 1 and 2)

Part 1

Part 2

Maria Theodoridou presents the VRE4EIC Metadata Portal. The first part of the tutorial introduces the core components and explains how to construct a basic query. The second part demonstrates advanced features of the portal: how to use the geographical map, how to expand basic into complex queries, and how to store and load queries.

For more information, see also the deliverables related to "Work Package 3". The software is open source and released on GitHub

How Research Infrastructures can take advantage of interoperable VRE building blocks (Part 1 & 2)

Part 1
This video introduces research infrastructures, what a distributed research infrastructures can provide to users, as well as its underlying governmental and technical organisation. Real examples are demonstrated from the European Plate Observation System (EPOS) use case.

Part 2
Daniele Bailo explains how interoperable building blocks developed in the framework of VRE4EIC can be used to enhance functionalities of research infrastructures illustrated in the example of the EPOS use case.

The ENVRIplus Use Case

VRE for environmental research infrastructures in ENVRIplus, presented by Zhiming Zhao from Unviersity of Amsterdam

Part 1: Research support systems

Part 2: Research Infrastructure development challenges

Part 3: Interoperability

Part 4: Overarching VRE for multiple RIs

Trust Part 1 and 2

Trust Part 1: The VRE4EIC AAI - Authentication & Authorization Infrastructure is explained by Jacco van Ossenbruggen from CWI in part 1 of this tutorial on trust.
Every Web application that provides access to expensive services or sensitive data needs to ensure this access is only given to trusted persons at the right time for the right reasons. Modern Authentication & Authorization Infrastructures provide scalable, federated solutions for this requirement. This video discusses the basic technical and organizational concepts of federated authentication and authorization protocols.

Trust Part 2: Trustable Computing in Open Science
When and why should you trust research datasets, the computations used to analyze them, and the conclusions drawn from the analyis results? In this video, we discuss the extent to which research data and research software can be subjected to a fit for use assessment, and how to improve upon the traditional approach where only the academic paper is published after peer review, while research data and research software used to produce the results in the paper remains unavailable for critical analysis and reuse by others.
