VRE4EIC workshop @ICIST 2018

VRE4EIC will be presented at the 8th International Conference on Information Society and Technology (ICIST), the largest computer science in Serbia. Do not miss the chance to listen to Dr Dragan Ivanović during his workshop on Virtual Research Environment on Monday, March 12.

Researchers can access and use more and more research data in digital age. They can use this data to obtain new insights, especially by combining datasets with other data. Discoverability of data is very important as a precondition for combining datasets and data. Data could be described by metadata in many ways and searching of those metadata improves discoverability of those data. Various projects are already producing e-Research Infrastructures to give researchers access to publicly funded research and open research data, and are developing towards Virtual Research Environments (VREs). VREs provide access to data, tools, resources from different research infrastructures, co-operation or collaboration between researchers at the same or different institutions, co-operation at the intra- and inter-institutional levels, and/or preserving data and other outputs (Carusi & Reimer, 2010).

The objective of this 90 minutes workshop is to elicit, refine and discuss requirements for an easy, straightforward VRE GUI for searching integrated open (research and government) data for researchers from multiple disciplines. The workshop is of interest to experts that ICIST 2018 brings together in the area of information systems, model-based software engineering, e-government, big data, biomedical engineering, semantic web research and Internet of Things. The workshop is aimed at (potential) users of (open) (government or research) data and scientific VRE researchers which can conduct research on VREs, for instance on VRE components and VRE communities.
