W3C Dataset Exchange WG and VRE4EIC meet RDA WG chairs
VRE4EIC's Scientific Coordinator Keith Jeffery and Phil Archer (ERCIM representing W3C within VRE4EIC) will join RDA working group chairs in Göteborg on the 14th of June 2017 to present the Dataset Exchange Working Group.
The new Working Group will update W3C's Data Catalogue Vocabulary (DCAT) and define the concept of content negotiation by profile. That is, clients may express a list of preferences for the metadata standards they can process when making a request to a catalogue; the catalogue can then respond with metadata in the most appropriate manner for that client.
VRE4EIC is using a rich metadata catalog utilising CERIF (Common European Research Information Format: an EU Recommendation to Member States) which has a set of convertors to/from other, less rich, metadata formats such as DCAT.
These ideas and more were developed at the VRE4EIC/W3C SDSVoc workshop at the end of last year. The aim of the meeting in June is to gather input from as many communities as possible and to ensure a good working relationship between VRE4EIC, W3C and the various metadata working groups at RDA.
