VRE4EIC at RDA 9th Plenary Conference
The VRE Interest Group held a session at the RDA (Research Data Alliance) 9th plenary conference in Barcelona 5-7 April 2017. Keith Jeffery represented VRE4EIC in presentations and discussions.
In particular there was discussion on how VREs assist interoperability, how they relate to research communities and how they may be sustained. There was also representation from EVER-EST (Fulvio Marinelli) and BlueBridge (Donatella Castelli) and colleagues from VREs in Australia and in North America.
One aspect that emerged was a general support for the concept that a VRE provides a platform for a researcher to launch workflows utilising assets across RIs (Research Infrastructures) and deployed within the e-RIs (ICT representation of the RI) or underlying e-Is (e-Infrastructures). The advantages of flexibility in assets used and the deployment targets for a particular workflow execution were clear.
